Information on major construction projects is available below. These projects may not yet be under construction. Projects are removed after construction is completed.

Future train station
The town is working with the state to reestablish passenger rail service and provide for economic development in Hillsborough, using 20 acres the town owns adjacent to the North Carolina Railroad corridor. For more information, see the project page.
Lawndale Basin sewer rehabilitation
Sewer lines will be repaired and relined in the Lawndale Basin in northern Hillsborough. For more information, see the project page.
Ridgewalk greenway
A feasibility study has been conducted on a future north-south greenway that would provide a bike/ped route from the future train station to the downtown. See the project page.
Skate Spot
A small-scale skateboarding park, or skate spot, is planned for Cates Creek Park. See the project page.
South Churton Street Multimodal Corridor Study
South Churton Street is being studied to develop design concepts that convey the town's interests and accomplish the goals of a state project to widen the roadway from Interstate 40 to the Eno River. See the project page.
Water and Sewer Facility Renovation and Expansion
The Adron F. Thompson Water/Sewer Facility will be renovated and expanded. For more information, see the project page.
U.S. 70 Multimodal Corridor
The Durham Chapel Hill Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization is conducting a study of U.S. 70 West from N.C. 119 in Mebane to U.S. 751 in Orange County. The corridor study will provide recommendations for future development of the transportation corridor. Learn more at the U.S. 70 West website.
Road to Zero Waste Plan
Orange County's solid waste master plan aims to identify a sustainable business model for managing waste that considers the financial, social, and environmental impacts on the community while setting forth the future programs, initiatives, facilities, and infrastructure needed to reach the plan goal of zero waste by 2045.
Private development is not a public project undertaken by the town or any other municipality; however, the town does list private development occurring or under review within town limits on the Development Projects page.
