Hillsborough’s Office/Garbage Collection Schedule for Memorial Day

Town of Hillsborough offices will be closed Monday, May 28 to observe Memorial Day.

Residential garbage normally scheduled for collection on Monday will be collected the following day, Tuesday, May 29.

Residents should place rollout carts at the curb between 7 p.m. the day before and 6 a.m. the day of collection.

The 2012 Residential Curbside Collections Calendar is available on the home and Public Works Department pages of the town website.

Hillsborough’s Great Main Street, Preservation Awards to Be Presented at Last Fridays

Hillsborough Recognized for ‘Great Main Street’

Add ‘Great Main Street’ to Hillsborough’s list of attributes.

The town’s main thoroughfare — Churton Street — is among six main streets to be recognized from across the state as part of the Great Places in North Carolina initiative sponsored by the N.C. Chapter of the American Planning Association.

Hillsborough Police Seeking Suspect in Strong-Arm Robbery

Hillsborough police are seeking any information from the public about a strong-arm robbery that occurred Saturday night, April 28, in the parking lot of the Walmart Supercenter in Hillsborough.

Hillsborough Seeking Volunteers for Advisory Boards

The Town of Hillsborough is recruiting volunteers for the following committees.

A volunteer application is available on the town website under Boards and Commissions in the Town Government section. Copies also may be picked up in the town clerk’s office on the Town Hall campus, 101 E. Orange St. Completed applications will stay on file for future vacancies.

Jack’s Back: Donkey Sculpture Returns to Hillsborough on Permanent Loan

A life-size metal donkey that captured the hearts of the public has returned to Hillsborough.

Technically, Jack’s only grazing in his new locale next to the Eno River Parking Deck in the downtown. The sculpture, created by artist Jonathan Bowling of Greenville, N.C., is on permanent loan for public display from Hillsborough residents Gail and Phil Cooley. He was installed April 15.

Hillsborough Mayor Discusses Need for Tax, Water/Sewer Rate Increases

Decreased revenue and increased expenses mean Hillsborough commissioners will consider a property tax rate increase of likely 6 cents, Hillsborough Mayor Tom Stevens said Thursday night, April 5, while addressing the state of the town.
