US 70/Cornelius Street Corridor

In May 2006, the U.S. 70/Cornelius Street Task Force was formed by a coalition of Orange County economic development leaders and Orange County and Hillsborough commissioners, as well as business owners and residents on and adjacent to the U.S. 70/Cornelius Street corridor. The task force identified specific needs and concerns to address and then developed potential solutions and recommendations to guide the growth and development of the corridor.

This comprehensive revitalization plan includes recommendations in:
  • Transportation
  • Crime and code enforcement
  • Economic development
  • Development and redevelopment potential
  • Landscaping and signage
The plan was endorsed by the Orange County Board of Commissioners on June 6, 2007, and adopted by the Hillsborough Board of Commissioners on July 9, 2007.

It received an honorable mention in September 2008 for Outstanding Planning Award in the comprehensive planning, small community category from the N.C. Chapter of the American Planning Association.
