Riverwalk Phase II Conceptual Design

In July 2011, the town began planning for the construction of Riverwalk Phase II that would complete the proposed connection from Occoneechee State Natural Area east through Gold Park and downtown to the Historic Occoneechee Speedway Trail.  This page provides updates on that planning process.

There are three sections to Riverwalk Phase II.  The westernmost phase connects the existing trail system at the Occoneechee State Natural Area to Gold Park.  The next section connects Gold Park to downtown and the existing trails in River Park.  The third section connects River Park to the lands owned by the Classical America Home Preservation Trust, the Historic Occoneechee Speedway Trail system, and possibly Ary Mount and Poet's Walk.  The Trust is partnering with the town on the bridge design in this project so bridges are consistent.  The Trust will be pursuing a separate schedule of construction for improvements on their property.
