Nash Street Sidewalk Plans

The Nash Street Sidewalk Project will improve safety for walkers and will serve as a north-south link, connecting neighborhoods, businesses and schools as well as Gold Park and Riverwalk in the future. Gold Park is a 24-acre site off Dimmocks Mill Road near the railroad trestle. It will be one stop on the planned Riverwalk greenway.

The length of the Nash Street Sidewalk Project is about 3 miles and includes construction of sidewalk along Nash Street, Revere and Faucette Mill roads and Allison, Calvin, Hayes and Union streets. The project also will include construction of curb and gutter, associated storm drainage, grading, erosion control, traffic control, pavement marking and pedestrian signal improvements. The estimated construction cost is $1.4 million.
 
The project has received approval from the N.C. Department of Transportation, including award of a construction contract to S.T. Wooten Corp. Work has started and is expected to be complete by summer 2011. The status of the project may be viewed below:
