Lease Addendum for Drug-Free and Crime-Free Housing

The town is offering landlords a tool to reduce crime and drug activity on their properties.

In January, the Town Board endorsed a lease addendum for drug-free and crime-free housing. The addendum clarifies that any drug or crime activity associated with a particular tenant — including a member of the tenant’s household, guest or other person under the tenant’s control — is grounds for terminating the lease.

The addendum also states that engaging in the manufacture, sale or distribution of illegal drugs at any location is grounds for terminating the lease.

Landlords in Hillsborough are encouraged to use the addendum or a similar document in their rental agreements. Please help spread the word to your landlord or other property owners.
