Fairview Park
Fairview Park, located at 195 Torain St., consists of 41 acres partially owned by the town. To simplify ownership boundaries, the town agreed to a land swap in 2011, giving Orange County 9.3 acres that now contain park facilities.
The park, near Hillsborough's police substation, includes a lighted ball field; lighted basketball and tennis courts; a volleyball court; hiking trails; horseshoe pits; playground; and lighted quarter-mile walking track. The tennis courts are the first public, nonschool courts in Northern Orange County. The county-owned park also includes a large picnic shelter.
The town provides water and sewer service to the park’s restrooms, picnic shelter and water fountains at no cost. Under the maintenance agreement with the county, the town also will lock and unlock the park's driveway gate, if one is installed.
The park was built partially with a $500,000 grant from the N.C. Parks and Recreation Trust Fund. Funding also came from a 2001 Parks and Open Space Bond, Hillsborough sidewalk funding, Orange County payment-in-lieu funding and St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church.
