Community Event Banner Permit
The banner spot at the "Welcome to Hillsborough" sign at the South Churton and Mayo Street intersection can be reserved to advertise community activities, functions, festivals, and similar events.
Banner Requirements:
- Banners can be used only to advertise community activities, functions, festivals, and similar events. Functions advertised must be open to the public. Functions of a political or for profit nature are not included in this definition.
- Banners can be displayed for 2 weeks. Permits are issued by the Planning Department on a first-come first-served basis.
- The only approved location for banners is between the flagpoles that are part of the "Welcome to Hillsborough" sign at the S. Churton and Mayo Streets intersection.
- Banners must be tied to the banner supports (not the flag poles) using 1/4" nylon rope at each corner.
- Banners must be constructed of a mesh material or have air vents cut every 3 feet.
- The banner supports are spaced about 18 feet apart. The maximum banner length is 15 feet. Banners should be about 30 inches tall with a maximum of 36 inches. Banners larger than 540 square feet create a significant pull on the poles during windy conditions and are not permitted.
Town staff will remove any banners or event signs that are improperly located, are of exceeding size, or beyond the permitted time limits.
The Town is considering implementing a fee for these permits, which would be effective for all permits applied for after July 1st, 2011. This will be discussed during the budget deliberations held in May.
Use the online Community Banner Permit Application form to apply for the dates you want. Once submitted, Planning Department staff will email you to notify you of approval.
