Brush Collection

Brush Collection Policy

- Brush must be 3 feet away from obstructions and not located below trees or power lines.
- Brush must be within 4 feet of the curb to be collected.
- Brush must not exceed 6 feet in length and must be no larger than 6 inches in diameter.
- Limbs must be stacked in one pile, with all limbs lying in the same direction.
- Brush must be free of trash and separated from leaves.
- Stumps are not collected.
- Debris from land clearing operations is not collected. This includes brush containing dirt, trash and stumps.
- Debris from tree trimming companies is collected as long as it complies with the size and location specifications listed above.

If your brush does not comply with the policy, a sanitation policy tag will be left at your door explaining the violations. Once the policy violations have been corrected, you may place another work order and the brush will be collected.

Collection Changes

Beginning November 2011, small amounts of brush must be placed in biodegradable paper bags or tied into bundles using jute, sisal or hay baling twine (no plastic cotton twine) if the amount is less than 30 pounds. Residents with a few sticks should allow a bagful or several armfuls to accumulate before placing brush at the curb.

The town is offering free samples of twine to be used in bundling brush. Stop by Town Hall at 101 E. Orange St. or the Town Hall Annex at 137 N. Churton St. for a sample.

Beginning February 2012, brush will be collected once every two weeks until the loose leaf collection season starts. During loose leaf season (November through the end of January), brush will be collected weekly.
