27 Views of Hillsborough

Hillsborough is known for its old world charm and for being a writer’s mecca in North Carolina. But there’s more to the town than historic markers and famous authors. A new book examines how Hillsborough’s sense of place developed over time. It’s called “27 Views of Hillsborough: A Southern Town in Prose & Poetry” (Eno Publishers/2010), and its lessons about creating community apply to every hamlet in the Triangle. Guest host Laura Leslie explores the definition of home and the role of planning and preservation in creating identity with some of the contributors, including: Investigative Journalist Bob Burtman; Orange County District Court Judge Beverly Scarlett; Thomas Campanella, Guggenheim fellow and associate professor of urban planning at UNC-Chapel Hill; and Michael Malone, author and professor of Theater studies at Duke University.
