Hillsborough Named Preserve America Community

First Lady Michelle Obama has designated Hillsborough — along with 28 other communities across the country — as a Preserve America Community.

Work to Start on Downtown, Kenion Grove Sidewalk Improvements in Hillsborough

Work on sidewalk improvements in downtown Hillsborough and in the Kenion Grove subdivision will tentatively begin the first week of July.

The work — which is scheduled to start after the Independence Day holiday — will include replacement of downtown and Kenion Grove sidewalks as well as repairs to the stormwater system at Kenion Grove’s U.S. 70 entrance. The project also will include grading, paving, erosion control and pavement marking.

Be Alert for Road Construction in Downtown Hillsborough

Citizens are advised to be alert for possible traffic congestion in downtown Hillsborough, which could start this week — the week of June 21.

Congestion may occur on Churton Street near Margaret Lane due to sidewalk and stormwater construction on West Margaret Lane for the duration of the project. One lane of West Margaret Lane may be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday. Weather permitting, construction is to be completed by the end of October.

Hillsborough Files Response to Orange County Lawsuit over Parking

The Town of Hillsborough is seeking dismissal of a lawsuit brought by Orange County government over parking at the county’s newly renovated courthouse.

The lawsuit, filed May 28 in Orange County Superior Court, names the town and the Hillsborough Board of Adjustment as defendants. The town’s response was filed June 8.

Hillsborough Rewards Alliance Director, Architect for Preservation Work

The Hillsborough Historic District Commission has rewarded two people — a nonprofit director and an architect — for their work in preserving the town.
